It’s beautiful outside today…maybe she’ll treat herself to a stroll around the neighborhood. A walk to the corner store…relax in the county park…she deserves to treat herself today. Emma is celebrating her birthday alone this year – just as she’s done for the past 3 years. They say it gets easier to be alone over time…people that say that are wrong. The lonliness builds…the sorrow lives on…the memories never die.
She packs herself a little sack, puts a can of pepper spray in her pocket and out the door she ventures. Emma’s heart pounds frantically after taking her first step out the door…she takes a deep breath and turns to walk down the street. The trees were blowing in the wind…the clouds were parting enough for the sun to peer through…Emma looked up towards the sky and briefly smiled. She stood there for a moment…eyes closed…feeling the presence of a man standing alongside her. Emma couldn’t bring herself to open her eyes…for if she did, he would be gone.
